COUPS D´OEIL

pintura emergente
instituto monsa de ediciones

And why not take a look, or several Coups d’Oeil, at a folder bringing together the work from the same generation of artists who have resisted the rigidity of a label?

Behind these works lie hidden expanding universes which inhale a certain pop and exhale a shrewd irony in what we could verbalize as a continuous breath of reinventing the present.

At a glance we come across original ways to shrink, expand and tether down the various traditions that these authors come from. Their genuine form of outlining, observing, deforming, deflating and exploding their phantoms, objects, roots and icons make each one the motor of their own world.

Coups d’Oeil is a visual blow to today's society, to the image of politics and the politics of the image. Between blows each artist takes a breath and with lungs full up to the bursting point, we are brought to the challenge itself. As so we are invited to take a deeper look at the surprising complicity woven between their works.

Lasanta_Cultura Visual is one of the new episodes of La Santa B publications, a new branch of ours, which started operating last February with the release of two books, “Salmones en Barcelona… a contracorriente. Tomo II. Moda” and “La piel de Barcelona. Graffitis y murales”. Following the same aims that have been always guided us, namely to come hell or high water as a space for experimentation and contemporary creation, at this new stage we decided to expand our physical borders into a new format: paper. Lasanta_Cultura Visual intents to be a new visiting space where distances and borders do not exist, an open room where a small selection of multidisciplinary work is exhibited, from photography to illustration, painting, graffiti, sculpture, graphic and fashion design… Always led by an open art concept, where all fields fit.

This publication is not ruled by any commercial scales of value on art, neither is it led by the current tendencies or fashion in the sector. Our selection criterion is clear: given that subjectivity is inevitable, the selected artworks presented in this magazine are works that have visually hit us, seduced us, left us speechless or made us laugh, works in which we have found a special interest; that’s what we want to share. This magazine is a compendium of what we think are the best proposals today in various artistic fields, in a way that, putting these together in one group under the same title, they form some kind of deli shop, offering the best products of the season. But let’s underline one thing: the best FROM OUR POINT OF VIEW. That is why we have decided to give a name that spreads this idea to each one of the Lasanta_Cultura Visual issues that will be published twice per year. DELICATESSEN is the name we chose for this very first one.

One of our main objectives, the reason why we started in the “Born” “Barrio” Barcelona more than thirteen years ago, was to be a take-off platform for emerging artists. That is why we are striving to place those young and new artists next to more well know or internationally recognized ones, so that through this co-habitation a fruitful dialogue between the works may be established.

Lasanta_Cultura Visual is above all a “pocket-size” exhibition made to enjoy, to think, to reflect, to excite… but it is also a tool for professionals, researchers or students, since it can work as a channel for the diffusion and the promotion of artists, who, due to distances, shipping costs, exceeded saturation in the sector or lack of exhibition space, have not had until now the visibility we think they deserve. It is also a way to receive works from abroad as well as to allow that Spanish projects cross the borders and become known outside the country, thanks to an international distribution.

La Santa B ediciones hopes that by this mean it will remain faithful to its commission to art, the artists and its public. Therefore, hoping that you will enjoy it as much as we did, we will let the works in these pages speak for themselves now.
